With the amount of remaining FAAB periods left dwindling, now is the time to capitalize on filling your categorical needs, if you haven’t began a targeted focus yet. This is also a good week to position yourself in advance of the deadline with a spec RP for saves, or to align yourself with a player who could gain value.
Schedule Notes 🗓️
Best schedules:
CLE, STL, WAS all play a 7-game week (Mon-Sun).
Worst schedules:
ATL, BOS, MIA, NYY, OAK, SF, TB has a 5 game week this week, so be sure to pull any of your non-elite 5 game players, using too many fringe 5-game guys is a recipe to lack ABs.
Hot Commodities 🔥
Endy Rodriguez | PIT | C | $1-$12 | If he wasn’t scooped in your league last week, he is worth rostering in all 2 catcher leagues. |
Christian Encarnacion-Strand | CIN | 1B/3B | $20-$75+ | A polarizing power prospect, CES grades out elite in terms of power and he has made a lot of strides in different areas as a hitter, but I do have hesitation on his hit tool and ability to make adjustments at The Show. I will throw some FAAB his way, but there is a real concern for me here until he shows more discipline and hit tool. |
Oswald Peraza | NYY | SS | $12-$35+ | A touted power-speed blend prospect, Peraza grades out well by all projections systems ROS and can provide a presence in all 5 cats. |
Wilmer Flores | SFG | 1B/2B/3B | $3-$6 | Likely gone but he is a decent player to use in the right matchups. |
Drew Waters | KC | OF | $2-$6 | Power (14% brl) and speed (8 SB att in 46 games) package from this post-hype breakout candidate, he will get all the PT he can handle in KC on top of that. |
Sal Frelick | MIL | OF | $4-$14 | Kwan-clone, if you need AVG and or SB he is worth your attention, but he will drop your power. |
Will Brennan | CLE | OF | $1-$3 | A flurry of RHP on the schedule make him workable. |
Mark Canha | NYM | OF | $2-$4 | Increased PT make him 15-team gold. |
Jose Quintana | NYM | P | $3-$13 | Home streamer and potential for more, Quintana could not be the same guy, since he is coming back from a scary health situation and his velocity is pretty low. He is worth a shot but do not get too, too aggressive. Gets a 2-start the week after next. |
Chase Silseth | LAA | P | $3-$13 | @ DET will draw bids as well as his big last start, this is a guy who had nice underlying talent last year and is a nice flyer this late in the year. |
Kevin Ginkle | ARI | P | $6-$15 | Be careful since ARI can buy a closer at the deadline, so I would only bid the amount you are comfortable for a 1-2 week CL rental with the upside he holds the job. |
Serviceable Streamers ♻️
Trey Cabbage | LAA | 1B | $1 | Power stream but tough week for him with 3 LHP on tap. |
Mike Moustakas | LAA | 1B/3B | $1 | Power stream but tough week for him with 3 LHP on tap. |
Jean Segura | MIA | 2B/3B | $1 | Since returning from the IL, he hit the reset button with a decent .315 AVG and a .756 OPS. Bench backup on CI/MI. |
Alex Call | WAS | OF | $1-$3 | Gets a full slate of PT, skills are okay and he is a streamer that is decent enough if your offense is weak. |
Nick Lodolo | CIN | P | $1-$4 | High-end stash, will come back in late August, if you need a jolt of Ks and can afford this stash. |
Gregory Santos | CWS | P | $1 | Closer spec. |
Carlos Hernandez | KC | P | $1 | Closer spec. |
Abner Uribe | MIL | P | $1 | Could be this year’s Munoz where he gives you 5-6+ Ks a week as a RP. |
Tanner Scott | MIA | P | $1 | Closer spec. |
Jason Foley | DET | P | $1 | Closer spec + ratio eraser. |
Spec Plays👓
Jordan Diaz | OAK | 2B | $1-$2 | Has been a bit better since returning after his initial debut, worth tacking onto your waterfall. |
Royce Lewis | MIN | 3B/SS | $1-$2 | He is slated to return in mid-Aug, only the healthiest of teams should stash him. |
Hyun-Jin Ryu | TOR | P | $1 | He will be back very soon and might be fantasy viable despite the injuries, if he is out there give him a look if pitching desperate. |
Dynasty Darlings 💎
Yoellin Cespedes | BOS | INF | $5-$25+ | The best INTL prospect for Boston since Devers, this kid is going to be on a hype train in a matter of weeks-months if he continues to swing the bat well. |
Drop Department ✂️
Chris Taylor | LAD | INF/OF | Drop | His balky knee will continue to be an issue and I would let him go. |
Shane Bieber | CLE | P | Drop | His ERA indicators coupled with the fact he is out for quite some time had me cutting him last week, I would highly consider it if you have him in a no IL league. |
