Finally, we make it to our last position preview, the OF! Due to the amount of time it took for me to fully design and launch the website, I am running behind on my schedule with some in-person drafts as well, and I won’t be able to produce full write-ups for each OF player like I did for prior articles.

2023 Outlook
The OF in 2023 is certainly worse than I have seen it prior, with more and more platoon options and the fact we are coming off a pitching heavy year where we didn’t have a rich middle class of OF as we normally do. That is not to fear, because we can aim to get one of the top tier OF options, and ideally one or even two more of the next tier or two down, and have 3 OF rocks to rely on and not overspend in the process.
Typically in an NFBC league, I will be must-starting 3 OF options each period unless they only get 2 games Mon-Thurs. The other 2 spots will be rotated based on volume of games, matchups and playing the hot hand. This will allow me to get a few big heavy hitting OF options, and then wait on that position until the 250s range of ADP where there begins to be more values popping up based on my ranks.
I would say the OF position starts out with high quality, and by the end of the Platinum Tier, it does begin to tail off slightly. That being said, the Gold Tier is still high quality, but you can notice the issues cropping up earlier than normal. The Silver Tier is a group that could downright scare some, so look for your favorite options accordingly.
Some drafters will push up OF to get a guy in a range where he isn’t a good value on paper to feel more secure but there is a nice pocket of OF as the draft progresses, like I said in the 250s range of ADP. Be sure to grab 2-3 legit OF options that you can feel good about their ceiling and floor, and then relax and focus on other positions until the 250ish range of the draft, that is how I am attacking this position in 5OF 15 team leagues.
Tier 1 β Diamond Tier π
1 | Ronald Acuna Jr. | ATL | OF |
2 | Aaron Judge | NYY | OF |
3 | Julio Rodriguez | SEA | OF |
4 | Kyle Tucker | HOU | OF |
5 | Mookie Betts | LAD | OF |
6 | Yordan Alvarez | HOU | OF |
The absolute cream of the crop at the position, clearly these players are unbelievably elite and most of them provide steals on top of their high counting stats, great AVG base and good power. Alvarez is a player I would carefully monitor the news on him, but my concern level isn’t too high – yet.
Tier 2 β Platinum Tier π
7 | Juan Soto | SD | OF |
8 | Fernando Tatis Jr. | SD | SS/OF |
9 | Mike Trout | LAA | OF |
10 | Michael Harris | ATL | OF |
11 | Randy Arozarena | TB | OF |
12 | Corbin Carroll | ARI | OF |
13 | Luis Robert | CWS | OF |
14 | George Springer | TOR | OF |
15 | Kyle Schwarber | PHI | OF |
This is a very wide ranging tier, obviously Soto and Schwarber are at different levels, but I am only sticking with 7 tiers for this article. I still think Soto is worthy of a 1st round selection given his opportunity for a 30 HR, 10 SB year with 110+ runs and an elite AVG. Tatis and Trout all depend on how you view their injuries and will change from manager to manager based on how much you want them. I am willing to get more aggressive with Corbin Carroll, since he could honestly be a game-changer with his steals upside.
Tier 3 β Gold Tier π₯
16 | Cedric Mullins | BAL | OF |
17 | Eloy Jimenez | CWS | OF |
18 | Bryan Reynolds | PIT | OF |
19 | Teoscar Hernandez | SEA | OF |
20 | Christian Yelich | MIL | OF |
21 | Adolis Garcia | TEX | OF |
22 | Byron Buxton | MIN | OF |
23 | Starling Marte | NYM | OF |
24 | Taylor Ward | LAA | OF |
25 | Tyler O’Neill | STL | OF |
26 | Steven Kwan | CLE | OF |
27 | Ian Happ | CHC | OF |
28 | Anthony Santander | BAL | OF |
29 | Hunter Renfroe | LAA | OF |
30 | Andrew Vaughn | CWS | 1B/OF |
31 | Giancarlo Stanton | NYY | OF |
32 | Kris Bryant | COL | OF |
33 | Jordan Walker | STL | 3B/OF |
Another very large tier, we have a bit of everything, and I do view most of these players as potential building block types that you can feel happy as an OF2 in 15-teamers.
Tier 4 β Silver Tier π₯
34 | Alex Verdugo | BOS | OF |
35 | Andrew Benintendi | NYY | OF |
36 | Mitch Haniger | SF | OF |
37 | Ramon Laureano | OAK | OF |
38 | Riley Greene | DET | OF |
39 | Seiya Suzuki | CHC | OF |
40 | Harrison Bader | NYY | OF |
41 | Lars Nootbaar | STL | OF |
42 | Oscar Gonzalez | CLE | OF |
43 | Brandon Nimmo | NYM | OF |
44 | Jeff McNeil | NYM | 2B/OF |
45 | Jake McCarthy | ARI | OF |
46 | Nick Castellanos | PHI | OF |
47 | Jesse Winker | MIL | OF |
48 | Masataka Yoshida | BOS | OF |
49 | Jorge Soler | MIA | OF |
50 | Manuel Margot | TB | OF |
51 | Chris Taylor | LAD | 2B/OF |
52 | Austin Meadows | DET | OF |
53 | Christopher Morel | CHC | 2B/OF |
There are still a lot of very exciting and useful players left in the OF, and you can really pack on the OF3 to OF5 types here onto your team if you want to be aggressive in filling that OF with quality.
Tier 5 β Bronze Tier π₯
54 | Trey Mancini | CHC | 1B/OF |
55 | Whit Merrifield | TOR | 2B/OF |
56 | Cody Bellinger | CHC | OF |
57 | Brandon Marsh | PHI | OF |
58 | Trent Grisham | SD | OF |
59 | Charlie Blackmon | COL | OF |
60 | Jake Fraley | CIN | OF |
61 | Seth Brown | OAK | 1B/OF |
62 | Wil Myers | CIN | 1B/OF |
63 | Joc Pederson | SF | OF |
64 | Mark Canha | NYM | OF |
65 | Andrew McCutchen | PIT | OF |
66 | Nick Gordon | MIN | 2B/OF |
67 | Jose Siri | TB | OF |
68 | Michael Conforto | SF | OF |
69 | Lourdes Gurriel | ARI | OF |
70 | Bryan De La Cruz | MIA | OF |
71 | Mike Yastrzemski | SF | OF |
72 | Enrique Hernandez | BOS | OF |
73 | Avisail Garcia | MIA | OF |
74 | Juan Yepez | STL | OF |
75 | Adam Duvall | BOS | OF |
Now we begin to start seeing mix and match types of OF options, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with those players assuming we are willing to play that matchup HW. Ideally my OF is pretty well rounded out by the time this tier is fully off the board.
Tier 6 β Copper Tier πͺ
76 | Oswaldo Cabrera | NYY | OF |
77 | Jarred Kelenic | SEA | OF |
78 | Joey Meneses | WAS | 1B/OF |
79 | Edward Olivares | KC | OF |
80 | Brendan Donovan | STL | 2B/3B/OF |
81 | Chas McCormick | HOU | OF |
82 | Lane Thomas | WAS | OF |
83 | Alex Kirilloff | MIN | OF |
84 | Esteury Ruiz | OAK | OF |
85 | Alek Thomas | ARI | OF |
86 | Tommy Pham | NYM | OF |
87 | Jack Suwinski | PIT | OF |
88 | Austin Hays | BAL | OF |
89 | Max Kepler | MIN | OF |
90 | Harold Ramirez | TB | 1B/OF |
91 | Sal Frelick | MIL | OF |
A lot of very interesting spec plays, there are some fascinating targets to view in this tier, but I hope I have my team’s OF filled up by the time this tier rolls around. That being said, there are options in this tier to put on your bench and see if they can pop in terms of upside.
Tier 7 β Foolβs Gold Tier π
92 | Jesus Sanchez | MIA | OF |
93 | Jurickson Profar | FA | OF |
94 | Marcell Ozuna | ATL | OF |
95 | TJ Friedl | CIN | OF |
96 | Michael Brantley | HOU | OF |
97 | Trevor Larnach | MIN | OF |
98 | Kerry Carpenter | DET | OF |
99 | Brian Anderson | MIL | 3B/OF |
100 | Dylan Carlson | STL | OF |
101 | Josh Lowe | TB | OF |
102 | JJ Bleday | OAK | OF |
103 | Will Brennan | CLE | OF |
104 | Drew Waters | KC | OF |
105 | Corey Dickerson | WAS | OF |
106 | AJ Pollock | SEA | OF |
107 | Will Benson | CLE | OF |
108 | Tony Kemp | OAK | 2B/OF |
109 | Nolan Jones | COL | OF |
110 | LaMonte Wade | SF | 1B/OF |
111 | Eddie Rosario | ATL | OF |
112 | Gavin Sheets | CWS | OF |
113 | David Peralta | LAD | OF |
A prospect and crusty veteran laden tier, this is a bargain bin section to go shopping for cheap PT or cheap upside. Be cautious to not overvalue this tier, since our bench spots should be churned early and often to take advantage of weekly matchups!
